Brotherhood poem: En Los Mentes y Corazones de Hermanos

I wrote the following poem for my (only) brother Brian a few years back on his birthday.

Hope you enjoy it!

En Los Mentes y Corazones de Hermanos

When I leave this Earth, I will have spent the defining days of my life–the earliest and latest, fondest and most troubled–with you, and you alone.

With you alone, I share the sentiments and reflections of our childhood–visions, images, revelations–, fleeting seamlessly through a myriad of perceptions, provoking our thoughts.

Ours alone is the blood that was passed from our mother’s womb; the life that now flows through our bodies–our hearts, our arteries, our veins–is ours, and ours alone.

Wherever our hats may lie, whatever trials come upon us, there will be no comfort like that received in brotherhood. Nor shall the passage of time divide our spirits, nor the trite opinions of others diminish our love. Nor will reason, nor circumstance, draw boundaries on the extent of our devotion.

You are always with me, and I with you.

This, mi hermano unico, is one of many precious gifts that we have been afforded by the heavens, and by our beautiful parents.

I love you.

Be good to each other,

Steve
