After that long, unannounced silence, I thought I’d better kick things off with an apology. This blogging project began as an experiment in creating an online community of provocative thinkers. I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to find and attract readers and have found quite a number of excellent blogging communities that are both stimulating and inspiring.
I quickly found myself allowing the blog to take a higher priority than other responsibilities I had undertaken, which was not entirely fair to the parties affected. I took our spring vacation as an opportunity to back away, catch up on commitments, clear my head, and prepare to give this project a proper go.
What does this all mean, exactly?
It means that the first phase of REALITY ON A STICK has helped to bring me to three important conclusions:
1) Blogging will play a significant role in my overall career strategy, which includes: community development (now extended on-line), continued global networking, collaborative projects, entrepreneurial support, consulting, and mixed media communications.
2) Blogging is also crucial to achieving my overarching life goal, which includes all of the above held to the following litmus test: Does any of it makes practical sense given my commitment to simplify my lifestyle and bring greater happiness and security to myself and my loved ones?
3) What’s good for you is good for me: At the end of the day, I strive to be proud of–or at least content with–the perspective that I have to offer to those who are kind enough to read along. This allows me to get my narcissism, my weakness to peer pressure, and my addiction to computers all working diligently in my favor!
I hope Reality on a Stick will not disappoint you in this–its second–phase of experimentation. Rest assured, I am dedicated as ever to providing what this blog’s title promises:
Reality; carefully skewered, slightly marinated, charred but tender and juicy; bite-sized bits of the good, the bad, and the vile.
Cheers,
Steven
